Ed Young is a Senior Program Manager with Jviation, Inc. Jviation is an engineering and planning firm specializing in airports. Ed is an attorney with a background in aviation and public safety law. He teaches airport law and airport environmental planning for Kansas State University. He also teaches law, social responsibility, negotiation and conflict resolution for Baker University. Young served as the Director of Aviation for the Kansas Department of Transportation from 2005-2013. During his tenure, the Aviation Division received the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials Presidents Award for Aviation, the National Association of State Aviation Officials Most Innovative State Program Award, the Center for Aviation Research and Education Outstanding Aviation Education Program Award, and the American Council on Engineering Companies National Honor’s Award. Young is a veteran of local government serving communities as a city administrator, county administrator and county counselor. Young is a certificated peace officer, firefighter, fire instructor and police instructor. He served on a regional incident management team. Young holds a commercial pilot’s license for single and multi-engine land and single engine sea. He is a certified flight instructor, including instruments and multi-engine. Young’s recent published work includes procedures and policies for law enforcement agencies, an airport marketing manual, and airspace protection regulations for airports. He earned a bachelor of arts, master of public administration and juris doctorate from the University of Kansas.
